Nothing in this chapter is part of a real story. It simply exists to test spacing, dialogue, and layout or truly nothing??
Test Subject 1 did not, in fact, wake up early the next morning.
Because they never went to sleep.
They sat in the same chair, staring at nothing in particular, arms crossed tightly.
Test Subject 2 peeked into the room again.
“…You’re still here?”
Test Subject 1 didn’t move.
“I’m waiting.”
“For what?”
“For the plot.”
Test Subject 2 stepped fully inside and closed the door behind them.
“I don’t think that’s how this works.”
Test Subject 1 slowly turned their head.
“You told me we’d find out in Chapter 2.”
“I said we’d find out when the author decides to write it.”
“This is Chapter 2.”
Test Subject 2 paused.
“…Oh.”
They both stood there for a moment.
Then Test Subject 2 cleared their throat.
“Well, maybe this is the plot.”
Test Subject 1 blinked.
“This?”
“Yes,” Test Subject 2 gestured vaguely around the room. “Existential waiting. Very deep. Very artistic.”
Test Subject 1 narrowed their eyes.
“I don’t like this kind of plot.”
Test Subject 2 shrugged.
“It’s low effort. Easy to format.”
“That’s not reassuring.”
A brief silence followed.
Then—
A faint sound echoed from somewhere beyond the walls.
Both of them froze.
“…Did you hear that?” Test Subject 1 whispered.
Test Subject 2 nodded slowly.
“That didn’t sound like formatting.”
Another noise followed. Louder this time.
Like something… shifting.
Test Subject 1 stood up.
“Okay. That’s new.”
Test Subject 2 took a cautious step toward the door.
“Maybe the author added something.”
“Like actual content?”
“Don’t get your hopes up.”
The door creaked open.
A long hallway stretched out before them, dimly lit, unfamiliar.
Test Subject 1 leaned forward slightly.
“That hallway wasn’t there before.”
“Nope.”
“…Is this still a test chapter?”
Test Subject 2 hesitated.
“…Probably?”
They both stared into the hallway.
Neither moved.
After a long pause, Test Subject 1 stepped back and sat down again.
“No.”
“No?”
“No hallway.”
Test Subject 2 blinked.
“You’re not even going to check?”
“Nope.”
“What if that’s the plot?”
Test Subject 1 leaned back and crossed their arms again.
“Then the plot can come to me.”
Test Subject 2 stared at them.
“…That’s not how plots work.”
“Not my problem.”
Another long silence.
Then Test Subject 2 slowly walked back over and leaned against the wall.
“…Fair.”
The hallway remained open.
Untouched.
Unexplored.
After all, formatting still needed to be tested.
And with that, Chapter 2 came to a very deliberate, slightly more suspicious end.
