Chapter 4
Disclaimer: This is a test chapter created only to check formatting on the blog.
Nothing in this chapter is part of a real story. It simply exists to test spacing, dialogue, and layout.
Any emerging continuity should be considered a coincidence.
The outline was still there.
Neither of them were looking at it.
That didn’t make it go away.
Test Subject 1 sat rigidly in the chair, staring very intently at the opposite wall.
Test Subject 2 leaned against the same spot as before, arms crossed, gaze fixed anywhere but there.
“…So,” Test Subject 2 said.
“So,” Test Subject 1 echoed.
A pause.
“…We’re not acknowledging it.”
“No.”
“Still?”
“Especially now.”
Test Subject 2 nodded.
“Good.”
Another silence.
Then—
“…It got darker,” Test Subject 2 said quietly.
Test Subject 1 did not react.
“I’m sure it didn’t.”
“I didn’t say where.”
Test Subject 1 hesitated.
“…Don’t.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“You implied it.”
“That’s not the same.”
Test Subject 1 slowly turned their head.
“…Is it still there?”
Test Subject 2 immediately looked away.
“I’m not checking.”
“That means it is.”
“That doesn’t prove anything.”
“It proves enough.”
A long pause followed.
Then, very carefully—
Test Subject 1 stood up.
“I’m just going to confirm something.”
“You said we weren’t acknowledging it.”
“I’m not acknowledging it.”
“You’re walking toward it.”
“That’s different.”
Test Subject 2 frowned.
“That’s not different.”
Test Subject 1 stopped halfway.
“…Fine.”
They turned around and sat back down.
Problem solved.
Silence returned.
The outline did not leave.
A faint sound came from the wall.
Soft.
Barely there.
Like something tapping from the other side.
Test Subject 2 stiffened.
“You heard that.”
“I didn’t hear anything.”
“You definitely heard that.”
“I definitely didn’t.”
Tap.
Both of them froze.
“…That wasn’t formatting,” Test Subject 1 said.
“No,” Test Subject 2 agreed quietly.
Tap. Tap.
The sound was clearer now.
Intentional.
Test Subject 1 stood up again.
“No.”
“No?”
“No.”
“You’re going again.”
“I’m not going.”
“You’re moving.”
“I’m repositioning.”
“That’s worse.”
Test Subject 1 stopped.
Turned.
Sat back down.
Again.
“…We’re not interacting with it,” Test Subject 1 said firmly.
“Agreed.”
Tap.
They both stared straight ahead.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Neither moved.
Neither spoke.
Then—
The outline shifted.
Just slightly.
Like something pressing against it from the other side.
Test Subject 2 swallowed.
“…If that opens—”
“It won’t.”
“You don’t know that.”
“It won’t.”
“Why are you so sure?”
Test Subject 1 crossed their arms tightly.
“Because there is no plot.”
Test Subject 2 nodded slowly.
“…Right.”
“Things like that require plot.”
“Right.”
“And we don’t have one.”
“Right.”
They both sat there.
Completely still.
Completely calm.
Completely ignoring the very obvious problem.
The outline creaked.
Just a little.
Just enough.
Test Subject 2 whispered—
“…That’s a hinge sound.”
“There are no hinges.”
“There might be now.”
“There aren’t.”
“There weren’t.”
Test Subject 1 didn’t respond.
The room fell silent again.
No tapping.
No movement.
Nothing.
A long moment passed.
Then another.
Test Subject 2 exhaled slowly.
“…See? It stopped.”
Test Subject 1 nodded.
“Exactly.”
“Nothing happened.”
“Nothing at all.”
They both relaxed.
Just slightly.
Behind them—
Very quietly—
The outline opened.
Just a crack.
Neither of them turned around.
Neither of them noticed.
Or maybe they did.
And chose not to.
After all, there was still no plot.
And things without plot couldn’t possibly lead anywhere.
Right?
And with that completely reasonable assumption, Chapter 4 came to an end.
